ROLE // SYSTEMS ARCHITECT & BACKEND ENGINEER

Akin

Keeps students in class when they cannot afford the commute.

GoFiberGORMPostgresRedisPaystackReact PWA
the problem

In a large cohort, attendance is bimodal. Some students quietly drop out because the daily trip costs more than they have, and the gap stays invisible until someone has already stopped showing up. A public donation board humiliates. Ad-hoc cash never reconciles. Just carpool has no safety net.

the solution

Two coordinated rails over one shared identity and an audited ledger: a pooled cash Transport Fund that givers contribute to through Paystack, and an in-kind ride network. The metric it optimises for is retention with dignity, not money raised.

the system

A Fiber HTTP and WebSocket API, GORM over Postgres, Redis for sessions and cache, Svix for webhooks, Resend for email, goose migrations, role-aware flows, and a full audit trail. A Vite, React and TypeScript PWA fronts it for low-end and offline-prone campus phones.

the hard part

The wallet ledger uses pessimistic row locking (GORM clause.Locking strength UPDATE, a SELECT FOR UPDATE) so two concurrent disbursements can never double-spend the fund. Worker pools coordinate the two rails in real time.

why this stack

Go and Fiber for concurrent coordination of two rails plus live WebSocket updates. A React PWA because the people who need this are on cheap phones and flaky networks, and the app has to load anyway.

the innovation

Dignity is encoded into the architecture, not bolted on. A cash rail and an in-kind rail reconcile inside one ledger, so help looks like a quiet transaction rather than a charity feed with someone's name on it.

the potential

Campus-wide rollouts, NGO and CSR-funded programs, and any community where transport cost is a silent dropout driver.
